Thirteen years might seem a long time, but they can pass in the blink of an eye when you have 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve. Even more when these goals include ending poverty and hunger, achieving gender equality and productive employment and protecting the environment; among many others. To achieve the SDGs, action is needed – large or small – from all of us.
There are still plenty of issues that hinder our progress in 2017: inequality, high levels of displacement or extremism and disenfranchisement. All of those are not only a matter of political leaders. We the people need to hold governments accountable, take action for the implementation of the SDGs, bring a diversity of peoples from different origins to the decision-making and create new tools for social engagement.
Several organisations are taking matters into their own hands and have joined forces to invite civil society, volunteers and citizens around the world to send a strong signal to leaders about the importance of the SDGs and what needs to be done two years after the signing of the goals.
They are creating a global campaign to create awareness and promote the SDGs among citizens by merging forces with civil society, volunteers and citizens in 100 different countries.
The campaign will be launched on the Global Day of Action, 25 September. Become part of this global movement and help turn promises into reality. You can register your own event here.
On 25 September, do not forget to use the hashtag #ACT4SDGS on your social media channels.
